Mondays in Knoxville

When Kayla and Caroline asked me to blog about my new ventures in Knoxville, I could not have been more excited!  I, like Kayla and Caroline, am a native of the lovely rural town of Sparta, Tennessee. I am proud to be a southern, God-fearing woman that was raised understanding the value of hard work and showing respect and hospitality to others.

I have now lived in the great city of Knoxville for officially one month!  Knoxville is an interesting city, in that it is a moderately-sized city but with a hometown feel.  You can find a farmer’s market or festival around every corner, and what’s more is that the people are almost as sweet as the sweet tea here.

So if you are coming to the town painted orange, there are a couple “musts” you will want to check out.

Interestingly, Mondays are my favorite.  Why Monday you ask?  Why the presumably worst day of the week?  And my answer is….Market Square, running, beer, and wings.  What more could a southern gal want?

Market Square back in the day.

Mondays are perfect for a quiet stroll through the Historic Market Square in the heart of the downtown area.  After the crazy antics of the weekend have hushed, Mondays offer the perfect time to explore the downtown area without all the hustle and bustle.  The Market Square was first established in 1854 and was originally a place for farmers of the region to sell their fresh produce.  Nowadays you can find yourself stumbling upon a free concert, local vendors selling their products, and even ice skating in the winter! Make a quick stop for coffee at Old City Java and take in the sights and stores along the way.

Market Square now.

The next stop is Bearden Beer Market in West Knoxville which offers Monday evening Fun Runs that are typically 3 to 5 miles in length.  The runs transverse through quaint neighbors or portions of town speckled with background sceneries of mountains and lakes.  After you work up a good sweat, you can cool off with $1 off pints of your choice.  This is a great place to meet new faces and mingle with like-minded individuals.  It is pet-friendly so fur babies are welcomed.

After a run, you may be craving some juicy wings.  Did I mention 20 cent wings?  Yes, my typical bill on Mondays at Blue Chips Sports Pub and Grill is always under 4 dollars!  (Side note: The Blue Chip Original wings are my favorite.) Now let me forewarn you, this place is not fancy.  Nor does it make you feel sophisticated. It is a smoky pub filled with billiards, darts, and a juke box.  But let me tell you….the wings are sure to not disappoint.

Stay tuned for more Knoxville area finds and until next time...

Kaci
